MLB: Chicago White Sox 8, Detroit 2

CHICAGO, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Alexei Ramirez hit a grand slam to break a tie in the sixth inning Tuesday, leading the Chicago White Sox to an 8-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

The White Sox will play host to the Minnesota Twins Tuesday in a one-game playoff to determine the AL Central Division championship. The White Sox went into Monday's contest trailing the AL Central-leading Twins by a half-game.

Monday's game was necessary after the White Sox-Detroit Sept. 13 game was postponed due to rain.

Tuesday's winner plays the AL East champion Tampa Bay Rays in a best-of-five series starting Thursday.

Jermaine Dye drove in two runs and A.J. Pierzynski one for the White Sox (88-74). Gavin Floyd (17-8) allowed five hits and two runs over six innings, striking out eight with two walks to earn the win.

Ryan Raburn had two hits and scored a run and Brandon Inge doubled in a run for the Tigers, who ended the season by losing eight of their final 11 games.

Armando Galarraga (13-7) took the loss in relief for Detroit.
