Avery suspended indefinitely by NHL

Howard hit .352 with a league-leading 11 home runs and 32 runs batted in in September. The spurt allowed him to claim the National League titles with 48 home runs and 146 RBI. He is the first Phillies player to have three consecutive 40-home run seasons.
It is the third time in his career he was NL player of the month. He also won in August and September 2006.
Santana was 4-0 with a 1.83 earned-run average in September. He had a three-hit shutout in his final start of the season. He was 16-7 on the year with a major league-best 2.53 ERA, 206 strikeouts and 2,341 innings pitched.
It is his sixth pitcher of the month award. Santana won the honor five times while with the Minnesota Twins.
