
NEW YORK, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- American League officials choose Cleveland outfielder Choo Shin-soo and Boston left-hander Jon Lester as the AL player and pitcher of the month for September.
Choo hit .400 for the month of September, including three 3-hit games. He finished the season with a .309 average with 14 home runs and 66 runs batted in in 94 games. His 98 hits on the year were the most ever by a Korean-born player.
Lester, who also was the AL pitcher of the month in July, was 4-1 with a 2.14 earned run average. He finished the season with a 16-6 record and 3.21 earned run average. He had two shutouts on the season, including a no-hitter May 19 against Kansas City.
Other players considered for AL pitcher of the month included Royals teammates Zack Greinke, who was 4-1 with a 2.18 ERA, and Joakim Soria, who was 1-0 with a 0,00 ERA and nine saves.
