NEW YORK, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will headline the Super Bowl XLIII Halftime Show in Tampa, Fla., the NFL and NBC announced Sunday.

Springsteen joins a high-profile roster of stars who have played the halftime spectacle -- including the Rolling Stones, U2, Paul McCartney, Prince, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Janet Jackson.

The Super Bowl XLII halftime show attracted more than 148 million U.S. viewers this year.

Super Bowl XLIII is scheduled for Feb. 1, 2009, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. The halftime show will be televised in more than 230 countries and territories, the league and the network said in their announcement Sunday.
