SAN DIEGO, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Ryan Doumit put Pittsburgh in front with a three-run homer in the sixth Friday and the Pirates went on to defeat San Diego 6-3.
Pittsburgh ended a nine-game road losing streak and San Diego remained in jeopardy of suffering through a 100-loss season. The Padres have 98 losses with two games to play.

Doumit's homer gave the Pirates a 4-1 lead and the final four Pittsburgh pitchers combined to throw one-hit ball over 3 1/3 innings.
Pittsburgh starter Ian Snell (7-12) got the win, going five innings and giving up a run on one hit.
Matt Capps earned his 21st save.
Mike Edstrom (0-2), the second of five San Diego pitchers, gave up Doumit's homer and took the loss.
