BOSTON, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Saturday's contest between the New York Yankees and the Red Sox was postponed because of rain at Boston's Fenway Park.

It will be made up as part of a regular season-ending day/night doubleheader Sunday.

The Yankees have been eliminated from the post-season picture and the Red Sox have clinched the American League wild-card berth, but no official reason for the rescheduled contest was given when Saturday's postponement was announced.

Saturday's scheduled starters were New York's Sidney Ponson (8-5) and Boston's Daisuke Matsuzaka (18-2).

The 2007 World Series champion Red Sox will face the AL West-winning Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim Wednesday in Game 1 of the American League Division series.

Late Saturday, the Yankees announced that veteran right-hander Mike Mussina (19-9) will be their starting pitcher in the second game, which gives him a chance to win 20 games in a season for the first time in his 18-year career. Boston will use knuckleballer Tim Wakefield in the nightcap.

Saturday's scheduled starters, Ponson and Matsuzaka, have been moved back to the opener.
