CHICAGO, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Ryan Garko hit two of Cleveland's three homers Friday, one of them a grand slam during a six-run fifth, boosting the Indians past the Chicago White Sox 11-8.
The White Sox lost their fourth straight and remained a half game behind Minnesota in the race for the American League Central title. Minnesota had a chance to expand its lead, but suffered an 8-1 loss to Kansas City.
Paul Konerko and A.J. Pierzynski hit home runs for Chicago to give the White Sox a 4-2 lead after two innings, but Cleveland got within a run in the fourth and then produced their big fifth inning off John Danks (11-9) and D.J. Carrasco.
Danks loaded the bases with nobody out and gave up a two-run single to Shin-Soo Choo before being replaced by Carrasco.
Jhonny Peralta drew a walk to again load the bases and Garko followed with his grand slam to center. Carrasco went on to hit two batters in the inning before escaping with no further damage.
Starter Scott Lewis (4-0) lasted five innings to get the win, allowing four runs on six hits. Jensen Lewis worked the final 1 1/3 to get his 15th save.
