MILWAUKEE, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- The Milwaukee Brewers fell into a tie with the New York Mets for the National League wild-card berth Saturday with a 7-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs.
The Brewers needed to win their last two regular season games to lock up the wild-card spot.
Winning pitcher Ted Lilly (17-9) carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh but then gave up a run and two hits before giving way to five Cubs relievers.
Daryle Ward and Kosuke Fukudome hit two-run homers. Mike Fontenot had two hits and three RBI, while both Ronny Cedeno and Henry Blanco had two hits for the NL Central champion Cubs, who ended a two-game skid.
Milwaukee's Prince Fielder had two hits and one RBI. J.J. Hardy and Craig Counsell had one RBI each, but the Brewers had only five hits in losing for the first time in their last six games.
The losing pitcher was starter Ben Sheets (13-9).
The Brewers and the Mets are both 89-72. If a one-game playoff is needed to settle the wild-card, it will be played Monday at New York.
