MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Alexi Casilla delivered a two-out, RBI single in the 10th inning Thursday, giving Minnesota the division lead with a 7-6 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
The Twins completed a three-game sweep of Chicago and moved a half game in front of the White Sox in the duel for the American League Central title.
Minnesota closes out the regular season with three home games against Kansas City and the White Sox are at home against Cleveland for three. If needed, Chicago will play a makeup game with Detroit Monday.
Chicago scored six times in the fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead, but the Twins slowly came back and eventually tied the game in the eighth when Carlos Gomez singled in a run and scored on Denard Span's triple.
Bobby Jenks (3-1) was on the mound to start the Minnesota 10th and got Brendan Harris on a groundout to start the inning. Punto, however, drew a walk and moved to second on a groundout by Gomez. Span was intentionally walked, bringing up Casilla.
Casilla looked at a strike before delivering a single to left that brought in Punto. It was Minnesota's fourth straight win.
Closer Joe Nathan (2-1) got the victory with a two-inning stint.
