CORVALLIS, Ore., Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Brothers Jacquizz and James Rodgers combined for four touchdowns Thursday, carrying Oregon State to a stunning 27-21 decision over top-ranked USC.
Oregon State fans stormed the field and covered it from end zone to end zone after the biggest surprise to date in the college football season.
Jacquizz Rodgers, a freshman, ran for 186 yards on 37 carries and scored on a pair of two-yard runs. The second of those touchdowns gave the Beavers (2-2) a 27-14 lead with 2:39 to play after Greg Laybourn had intercepted a Mark Sanchez pass and returned it 28 yards to the Trojans' two.
James Rodgers caught two scoring passes from Lyle Moevao -- an eight-yarder for the game's first touchdown and a three-yarder with four seconds left in the first half.
The second of those catches gave Oregon State a 21-0 halftime lead and came after a personal foul penalty on USC afforded the Beavers a chance for a touchdown when they otherwise would have had to settle for a field goal.
USC (2-1) opened the second half with two quick touchdown drives to cut its deficit to seven, but the Trojans next four possessions ended with three punts and an interception. Sanchez hit Patrick Turner with a 14-yard touchdown pass with 1:19 to play, but Oregon State recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock.
