TORONTO, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Roy Halladay won his 20th game of the season with a complete-game effort Thursday, leading the Toronto Blue Jays to an 8-2 victory over the New York Yankees.
Halladay (20-11) reached the 20-win plateau for the second time in his career. He gave up two runs on six hits and went the distance for the ninth time this season.
Cleveland's Cliff Lee (22-3) is the only other American League pitcher with 20 wins this season. Brandon Webb (22-7) is the only NL pitcher with 20 wins.
Vernon Wells had a home run and four RBI for the Blue Jays, who ended a three-game losing streak. New York, which was eliminated from post-season contention Tuesday, had won seven in a row.
Carl Pavano (4-2) surrendered five runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss.
The victory came on the day the Blue Jays announced they had extended Manager Cito Gaston's contract through 2010.
