Kim leads Tour Championship by four

ATLANTA, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Anthony Kim, one of the heroes of the U.S. Ryder Cup victory, shot 6-under 64 Thursday to take a four-shot lead after one round of the Tour Championship.

Kim, who has won two tournaments this year, recorded eight birdies over the East Lake Country Club course, in the opening round of the fourth and final PGA Tour playoff tournament.

Vijay Singh has already wrapped up the FedEx Cup title and its first prize of $10 million, but there is still plenty of money to play for this week and Kim put himself in excellent position to win the Tour Championship's first prize of $1.2 million.

Ernie Els, current Masters champion Trevor Immelman and Phil Mickelson were tied for second at 68. Mickelson and Kim were partners in three Ryder Cup matches last week, recording one victory and two ties.

Kim then played in the first singles match Sunday against Sergio Garcia and recorded the most one-sided triumph of the day.

Singh, who has won two of the three previous playoff events, shot a 73 Thursday and was tied for 17th in the 30-player field.
