BEIJING, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Eighth-seeded Sam Querrey rebounded after a poor first set Wednesday for a first-round victory at the $524,000 China Open tennis tournament in Beijing.

Querrey's serve was broken three times in the first set but faced just two break points the rest of the way in a 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win over Jesse Levine.

The only other seeded player to see action Wednesday was No. 5-seeded Fernando Verdasco, who advanced to the second round with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Bobby Reynolds.

Brendan Evans fought off three match points before surviving a tough 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 7-6 (12-10) match with Roko Karanusic. Also Wednesday, Go Soeda topped Yan Bai 6-4, 7-5, Dudi Sela beat Nicolas Devilder 6-4, 6-3, Ivo Miner defeated Lee Hyung-taik 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 and Jean-Claude Scherrer took out Peng Sun 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).
