TORONTO, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Bobby Abreu hit a grand slam home run with one out in the 10th inning Wednesday, lifting the New York Yankees to a 6-2 victory over Toronto.

The Yankees extended their winning streak to seven games, a surge of success that came too late to prevent them from missing the playoffs.

Jesse Carlson (7-2) gave up a lead-off double to Juan Miranda in the ninth. Melky Cabrera then came in to run for Miranda, Chad Moeller drew a walk and both runners moved up on Brett Gardner's sacrifice.

Carlson hit Robinson Cano with a pitch to load the bases and Abreu, who struck out three times in the game, blasted a homer to right.

Joe Veras (5-2) worked the bottom of the ninth to get the win.

Toronto lost its third in a row.
