Kirilenko wins in rout in South Korea

SEOUL, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Maria Kirilenko broke her opponent's serve each time Tuesday in a first-round win at the $145,000 Korea Open tennis tournament in Seoul.

Kirilenko recorded seven breaks in seven receiving games in a 6-2, 6-0 rout of Lenka Wienerova. Kirilenko was the 2007 Korea Open runner-up.

Even more impressive was unseeded Jill Craybas, who was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Meng Yuan. Craybas won 71 percent of the points in the match.

Third-seeded Kaia Kanepi also moved into the second round, beating Rika Fujiwara 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-0 while eighth-seeded Yung-Jan Chan topped Mata Santangelo 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. But fourth-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro was ousted by Klara Zakopalova 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 and seventh-seeded Marina Erakovic was routed 6-2, 6-0 by Samantha Stosur.

Others posting wins Tuesday were Ekaterina Makarova, Ayumi Morita, Anastasia Pivovarova, Lucia Safarova and Stephanie Dubois.

The tournament continues through Sunday when the 2008 Korea Open titlist will take home $22,900.
