Tommie Harris' wife dies

OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Jack Cust smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning and Oakland held on Sunday to edge Seattle 5-3, the Mariners' 11th consecutive loss.
Aaron Cunningham added a two-run double for Oakland, which has won seven of eight.
Ichiro Suzuki and Jeremy Reed each had an RBI for Seattle.
Brad Ziegler (3-0) pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning and picked up the win.
Miguel Batista (4-14) was the losing pitcher, giving up two runs in 1 1/3 innings.
