MLB: Chi. Cubs 5, St. Louis 1

CHICAGO, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Casey McGeehee's two hits and two RBI Sunday led the Chicago Cubs' 5-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

The reserve catcher, a late-season call-up, hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning and an RBI single in the sixth.

Jim Edmonds and another late-season call-up, Micah Hoffpauir, both had one RBI.

One run scored on Felipe Lopez' third inning throwing error and three others had two hits for the NL Central champion Cubs, whose 55 wins at Wrigley Field are the most in a single season since 1935.

Winning pitcher Ryan Dempster (17-6) gave up one run and six hits in five innings and his 17 wins extended his career-high in one season.

St. Louis averted a shutout on Albert Pujols' first inning sacrifice fly.

Skip Schumaker had three of the seven hits for the Cardinals, who have dropped two straight and nine of 11.

The losing pitcher was starter Braden Looper (12-14).
