NEW YORK, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Robinson Cano's single in the bottom of the ninth Saturday lifted the New York Yankees to a 1-0 victory against Baltimore, their fourth win in a row.
The next-to-last contest at Yankee Stadium featured gems by starters Alfredo Aceves of New York and Baltimore's Brian Burres.
Aceves gave up five hits in six scoreless innings with three walks and three strikeouts.
Burres allowed three hits in seven scoreless innings with no walks and two strikeouts.
Before Cano's single, pinch-runner Brett Gardner stole second and two others drew intentional walks.
Gardner ran for Derek Jeter, who left the contest when he was hit on the left hand by a pitch by losing pitcher Justin Miller (0-2).
The Yankees had only four hits, but temporarily avoided elimination in the American League post-season chase.
The winning pitcher was closer Mariano Rivera (6-5).
Oscar Salazar had two of the six hits in the Orioles' fourth straight one-run loss.
