CHICAGO, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Alfonso Soriano hit a key two-run single Saturday and the Chicago Cubs locked up the NL Central Division with a 5-4 win over St. Louis.
Soriano's hit was part of a three-run second inning.
The third run scored when Brian Barton booted Soriano's single.
Winning pitcher Ted Lilly and Mark DeRosa had one RBI apiece, with Lilly executing a suicide squeeze in the fourth.
The Cubs won the crown for a second straight season despite getting just six hits.
Lilly (16-9) surrendered four earned runs and six hits in seven innings with two walks and five strikeouts.
Closer Kerry Wood earned his 32nd save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
St. Louis scored on Felipe Lopez' infield single and Troy Glaus' three-run homer, both in the sixth.
Cesar Izturis had two of the six hits for the Cardinals and any combination of three Mets wins and Cardinals losses eliminates St. Louis from postseason contention.
The losing pitcher was Joel Pineiro (6-7).
