Turnesa keeps Viking Classic lead

Sept. 19, 2008 at 9:28 PM   |   Comments

MADISON, Miss., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Marc Turnesa maintained a one-shot lead midway through the Viking Classic Friday by firing a 4-under 68.

Turnesa holed a nine-foot par putt on the final hole to complete two rounds at the Annandale Golf Club in 11-under 133.

A stroke back were Will MacKenzie, Paul Stankowski, Dicky Pride and Brian Gay. Casey Wittenberg was alone in sixth at 135.

John Daly shot a 67 and found himself tied for ninth at 137, one of his best starts to a tournament this year.

This is the first of seven tournaments that make up what the PGA Tour refers to as the Fall Finish. Turnesa is 169th on the money list and a victory would ensure a spot among the 125 players who will earn playing privileges on the tour next season.
