The first baseman's only hit in six at-bats snapped a 3-3 tie with one out in the top of the inning and gave the NL West-leading Dodgers their third win in the four-game series.
Andre Ethier had two hits and one RBI. Blake DeWitt hit a fourth inning two-run single and Matt Kemp added two hits and scored twice for the Dodgers, who have won seven of their last 10.
The winner was Scott Proctor (2-0).
Jonathan Broxton, the last of seven Dodger pitchers, earned his 14th save despite walking two batters in the bottom of the 12th.
Starter Clayton Kershaw yielded a run and two hits in five innings.
Three players drove in one run apiece and Nyjer Morgan had two hits for the Pirates, who had won four of six.
The losing pitcher was Craig Hansen (1-4).
Starter Paul Maholm surrendered three runs and three hits on seven innings, but walked six batters.
