The Diamondbacks, emerging from the slump that cost them their division lead, won their third in a row and closed to within 3 1/2 games of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.
Upton's two-run homer finished off a five-run second that gave Arizona a 6-3 advantage. Eckstein contributed a solo shot in the sixth.
Arizona had a 7-3 lead going into the ninth before things tightened. Doug Slaten walked the first two batters before being relieved by Tony Pena. Omar Vizquel greeted Pena with a triple and Vizquel scored on a ground out by Rich Aurilia.
Pena then got a ground out from Dave Roberts and a strikeout from Randy Winn to pick up his third save.
The win went to starter Brandon Webb (21-7), who gave up two runs on eight hits over seven innings. Jonathan Sanchez (9-11) coughed up six runs on six hits in 3 2/3 to take the loss.
