ARLINGTON, Texas, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Taylor Teagarden hit a grand slam and drove in five runs -- his first pro grand slam and a career high run total -- as Texas outpowered Detroit 11-8 Monday.

Travis Metcalf also hit a three-run homer for the Rangers, while Marlon Byrd had a two-run triple for Texas, which has won three of its last five games.

Starter Brandon McCarthy suffered a strained flexor tendon on his right middle finger and lasted just 2/3 of an inning. Frank Francisco (3-5) picked up the win for Texas.

Gary Sheffield hit a three-run homer, his 497th career blast, for the Tigers, who have dropped five straight. Jeff Larish racked up two RBI, while Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-5 with an RBI and scored twice.

Detroit starter Dontrelle Willis gave up three runs on two hits in five innings with four strikeouts and five walks. Kyle Farnsworth (2-3) picked up the loss.
