Zambrano on Sunday night made his first start since Sept. 2 after being sidelined with tendinitis. He came through with an effort in which he struck out 10 Houston Astros batters and walked just one for his first shutout since May 7, 2004.
The game was relocated from Houston to Milwaukee because of Hurricane Ike.
Zambrano was the first Cubs pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Milt Pappas turned the trick Sept. 2, 1972, against the San Diego Padres. Zambrano also singled and scored a run.
The win improved Zambrano's record to 14-5 with a 3.41 earned-run average.
Monday's announcement by NL officials marked the first weekly award for Zambrano.
Other players considered for National League player of the week honors for games played Sept. 8-14 included Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Jon Niese, Fernando Tatis and David Wright, all of the New York Mets.
