NEW YORK, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Mariano Rivera retired the side in the ninth for his 479th career save Monday to give the New York Yankees a 4-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Rivera passed Lee Smith for second place on the all-time major league save list and now trails only Trevor Hoffman (552). Phil Coke(1-0) earned his first career win with a perfect seventh inning in relief of starter Alfredo Aceves, who lasted six innings and gave up for two runs on five hits.

Xavier Nady had a two-run homer and scored twice for the Yankees, who have won three straight. Johnny Damon and Wilson Betemit each drove in a run in the win.

Dewayne Wise hit a two-run homer to account for all the runs for Chicago, which has lost five of its last eight games. Chicago starter Mark Buehrle allowed two runs on six hits in six innings. Ehren Wassermann (1-2) suffered the loss.
