BOSTON, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- A.J. Burnette allowed an unearned run in six innings Saturday, helping the Toronto Blue Jays to an 8-1 win over the Boston Red Sox.
Burnette (18-10) gave up three hits with three walks and six strikeouts. He threw 66 of 102 pitches for strikes and shut down one of baseball's best attacks.
Boston's run scored on pinch-hitter Kevin Cash's seventh-inning sacrifice fly shortly after an error by Joe Inglett.
At the plate, Toronto left fielder Travis Snider knocked in five runs with a fifth-inning, three-run homer and sixth-inning, two-run double.
Three others had one RBI, including Inglett and Vernon Wells, who had two hits apiece in the Blue Jays' eighth win in their last 10 games.
Jacoby Ellsbury had two of the five hits for the Red Sox, who fell 2 1/2 games behind American League East-leading Tampa Bay.
The losing pitcher was starter Paul Byrd (11-12).
