MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- David DeJesus' one-out single in the top of the 10th inning Thursday boosted the Kansas City Royals to a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins.
His second hit helped Kansas City avoid a three-game sweep.
Like DeJesus, Jose Guillen had two hits and one RBI, while Esteban German drove in a run with a second inning double for the Royals, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
The winner was Ramon Ramirez (3-2), the fourth of five Kansas City pitchers.
Closer Joakim Soria recorded his 36th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Starter Brandon Duckworth yielded two earned runs and seven hits in five innings.
Minnesota's Justin Morneau had two hits and one RBI.
Carlos Gomez' lone hit was a second inning RBI single and, like Morneau, Denard Span had two hits for the Twins, losers in three of their last five games.
The losing pitcher was Matt Guerrier (6-8).
Starter Francisco Liriano surrendered two earned runs and six hits in eight innings.
