BALTIMORE, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Reliever Jim Miller, a September roster addition, worked his way out of a ninth-inning jam Thursday and preserved Baltimore's 6-3 victory over Cleveland.
Cleveland lost for just the third time in its last 16 road games.
The Indians overcame a 3-1 deficit to tie it in the fifth, but Baltimore regained the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning with the go-ahead run coming in on a groundout by Ramon Hernandez. A fielding error by Cleveland second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera on Kevin Millar's grounder allowed Aubrey Huff to score with the second run of the inning.
Baltimore took a three-run lead into the ninth and Miller, a recent call-up from Class AAA Norfolk, was brought in to protect the advantage.
He promptly walked Michael Aubrey and gave up a single to Andy Marte. But Kelly Shoppach struck out, Cabrera flew out to right and Jhonny Peralta grounded out to first, giving Miller his first big league save.
The win went to Lance Cormier (3-3), the third Baltimore pitcher, who allowed a hit over three innings.
Indians' starter Zach Jackson (0-3) was tagged with the loss, surrendering four earned runs on eight hits in six innings.
