ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Rob Quinlan hit a key fifth inning two-run single Wednesday to boost the LA Angels to a 4-2 win over the New York Yankees.
His only hit came with two outs in bottom of the fifth inning and erased a 2-1 deficit.
A third run in the inning scored on Xavier Nady's throwing error.
Juan Rivera drove in one run and three players had two hits for the AL West-leading Angels, who won twice in the three-game series.
Winning pitcher Dustin Moseley (2-4) surrendered two earned runs and three hits in five innings with three walks and six strikeouts.
Closer Francisco Rodriguez, the last of five pitchers, recorded his 56th save.
The victory helped the Angels clinch a share of the AL West crown and by going 2 for 4, Vladimir Guerrero extended his hitting streak to 10 straight games.
New York scored on Jason Giambi's single and Moseley's balk, both in the first inning.
Losing pitcher Andy Pettitte (13-13) gave up four runs -- three earned -- and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.
The Yankees sank to nine games back of Boston in the AL wild card chase.
