BALTIMORE, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Scott Lewis allowed three hits over eight shutout innings in his major league debut Wednesday, carrying Cleveland to a 7-1 win over Baltimore.

Kelly Shoppach hit two solo homers and Asdrubal Cabrera drove in three runs in helping the Indians win for the 13th time in their last 15 road games.

Lewis (1-0) was called up from Class AA Akron to make the start. He recorded a 2.33 ERA in the minors this year. He gave up a lead-off double in the second to Ramon Hernandez, a two-out single to Brian Roberts in the third and a lead-off single to Alex Cintron in the sixth. Lewis did not walk a batter and struck out three.

Baltimore's only run came in the ninth off reliever Masahide Kobayashi.

Shoppach came through in both the fifth and seven innings, running his season home run total to 19. Cabrera doubled in two runs in the fourth and lifted a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Chris Waters (2-3) took the loss, giving up five runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings.
