MLB: Chicago White Sox 6, Toronto 5

CHICAGO, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Bobby Jenks gave up three ninth-inning runs Wednesday before striking out Alex Rios to end the game and preserve a 6-5 Chicago White Sox win over Toronto.

Jenks almost let a four-run lead slip away, but the White Sox held on to stay one game in front of Minnesota in the race for the American League Central title.

Toronto had a 10-game winning streak come to an end.

A.J. Pierzynski singled in one of Chicago's two first-inning runs and had a two-run double in the sixth.

The White Sox built a 5-0 lead through seven innings, then held on after Rios hit a two-run homer in the eighth and Jenks found big trouble in the ninth.

Joe Inglett reached on a one-out single in the ninth, went to second on a walk to Scott Rolen and scored on Lyle Overbay's single. Marco Scutaro then doubled in Rolen, with Overbay going to third. Overbay came in on a groundout by Jose Bautista.

With Scutaro on third and sole possession of first place in the division on the line, Jenks got Rios to swing at a 1-2 pitch to end the game.

Mark Buehrle (13-11) allowed one run on seven hits over 7 1/3 to get the win. The loss went to Roy Halladay (18-10), who surrendered five runs on nine hits in six innings.
