NEW YORK, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner earned his first player of the week award when the NFL announced its weekly winners Wednesday.

Turner, in his first season with the Falcons, shredded Detroit with a franchise record 220 rushing yards in Atlanta's 34-21 win over the Lions.

Turner, a four-year veteran from Northern Illinois, is the first Falcons running back to win the award since Warrick Dunn in 2003.

He had been a backup to San Diego star LaDanian Tomlinson.

Also named on NFC slate were Chicago Bears end Adewale Ogunleye (defense) and Green Bay kick returner Will Blackmon (special teams).

In winning his third career honor, Ogunleye made six tackles, including three for losses, one which resulted in a safety in the Bears' 29-13 victory at Indianapolis.

Blackmon scored on a third quarter 76-yard punt return in the Packers' 24-19 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
