

BALI, Indonesia, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Flavia Pennetta was a straight-set winner Tuesday in first-round play at the $225,000 Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic in Indonesia.
Pennetta, making her first appearance since a quarterfinal loss during the U.S. Open, dispatched Vania King 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 at the hard-court tournament.
No. 4-seeded Nadia Petrova, who beat Aiko Nakamura, 6-3, 6-1, and seventh-seeded Sara Errani, who topped Natalie Grandin. 6-2, 6-1, also advanced Monday. But eighth-seeded Aleksandra Wozniak was ousted by Jill Craybas, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Other first-round results Tuesday saw Tathiana Garbin oust Melina Czink, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3); Anastasia Rodionova advance over Julia Vakulenko, 6-2, 3-0 (retired); Olga Savchuk beat Alla Kudryavtseva, 7-5, 6-2; and Yung-Jan Chan defeat Vasilisa Bardina, 6-2, 6-1.
Savchuk's second-round opponent is top-seeded Daniela Hantuchova, who was the runner-up at this event in 2007.
