
NEW YORK, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Carlos Delgado hit two homers for the second straight game Tuesday, powering the New York Mets' 10-8 win over the Washington Nationals.
Delgado, who homered twice in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Philadelphia Sunday, finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored. Carlos Beltran and Ryan Church each had a homer among two hits, with two runs scored and two RBI for the Mets,
Oliver Perez gave up seven runs on eight hits and two walks before Joe Smith (4-3) earned the win with 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
The Mets moved 2 1/2 games ahead of Philadelphia in the National League East.
Anderson Hernandez had three RBI and two runs scored for Washington. Cristian Guzman had a homer, two runs scored and two RBI, and Ryan Zimmerman added three hits in the loss.
Charlie Manning (1-3) got the loss after giving up back-to-back homers in the sixth inning.
