Seahawks WR has season-ending knee injury

KIRKLAND, Wash., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Nate Burleson will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a left knee injury Sunday against Buffalo.

Seattle Coach Mike Holmgren announced the news at a Monday press conference. Burleson caught five passes for 60 yards and one touchdown before leaving Sunday's game in the third quarter with the injury.

Seahawks receivers Deion Branch and Bobby Engram were already out with injuries and are expected to miss considerable time to start the season. The team also lost wideout Ben Obomanu, who broke his collarbone in the final pre-season tuneup against Oakland and was placed on season-ending injured reserve last week.

Of the three remaining receivers on the roster available to play, only Courtney Taylor had an NFL reception prior to Sunday's season-opener. Wideouts Logan Payne and Jordan Kent each spent the 2007 season on the practice squad.

Burleson signed a seven-year, $49 million deal with Seattle prior to last season. The sixth-year pro has 200 receptions for 2,735 yards and 24 touchdowns in 77 career NFL games with Minnesota and Seattle.
