
Murray will play reigning four-time open champion Roger Federer for the title Monday.
The 21-year-old Murray, a native of Scotland, completed a rain-interrupted, two-day match with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-4 win over Nadal.
Murray held a two-set lead with Nadal leading in the third set when their semifinal match was suspended because of rain Saturday. After play resumed, Nadal won the third set and took a 3-1 lead in the fourth, but Murray stormed back to take the match.
It was the first time he had beaten the Spaniard, who was seeded No. 1.
The young Scot, seeded sixth, will play in his first Grand Slam final.
Switzerland's Federer, the No. 2 seed, eliminated third-seeded Novak Djokovic of Serbia 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 Saturday in the other semifinal match.
Federer has won 33 consecutive matches in the U.S. Open.
Murray and Federer have played three times in ATP events with the Scotsman winning twice.
