COL FB: Utah 42, UNLV 21

SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Brian Johnson passed and ran for 263 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to lead the 23rd-ranked Utah Utes to a 42-21 win over the UNLV Rebels.

Johnson had 183 passing yards and two touchdowns on 15-of-24 completions and rushed five times for 80 yards and a TD in the Mountain West Conference opener for both schools.

Backup quarterback Matt Asiata had just one pass, a 32-yard touchdown, and rushed 11 times for 34 yards and a touchdown for the Utes (2-0, 1-0 MWC). Freddie Brown had two receptions for 60 yards and a TD.

Omar Clayton was 19-of-30 passing for 159 yards and a touchdown for the Rebels (1-1, 0-1). Frank Summers rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries and Phillip Payne caught four passes for 63 yards and a touchdown.
