COL FB: Clemson 45, The Citadel 17

CLEMSON, S.C., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- C.J. Spiller scored three touchdowns Saturday to lead the 22nd-ranked Clemson Tigers to a 45-17 victory over The Citadel.

Spiller, who rushed for 75 yards on six carries, scored on runs of 37 and one yard in the second quarter and a 17-yard run in the third quarter.

Clemson led 35-7 after three quarters. James Davis, who lead the Tigers in rushing with 107 yards, scored the game's first TD with a 38-yard run with 10 seconds left in the opening period.

Citadel quarterback Matthew Blanchard completed 22-of-35 passes for 279 yards, but was intercepted three times.
