Ravens put Kyle Boller on injured reserve

OWINGS MILLS, Md., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- The Baltimore Ravens have placed quarterback Kyle Boller on the season-ending injured reserve list with his damaged right shoulder.

The decision to put the four-year veteran on the IR came four days before the season-opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Boller's roster spot will go to journeyman backup Todd Bouman, signed when Boller was placed on the IR and rookie Joe Flacco will be the starter.

"We think he is the best fit for our team at this time," Coach John Harbaugh told the Baltimore Sun.

Boller, the Ravens' first-round pick in 2003 out of California, was hurt on Aug. 16 in the Ravens' second preseason game and had not been able to throw since the injury.

Last season, he threw for nine touchdowns and 1,743 yards with 10 interceptions.

Despite a solid preseason, Bouman was released by Jacksonville last weekend after he was unable to beat out Cleo Lemon for the primary backup job behind starter David Garrard.
