GLASGOW, Scotland, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Former World Boxing Organization champion Scott Harrison was sentenced Tuesday to eight months in a Scottish prison for drunken driving and assault.
Harrison got a six-month sentence for the driving offense, which occurred last week. The other two months are for assaulting his girlfriend and a police officer earlier this year, Sky News reported.
Sheriff Lindsay Wood, presiding at Sheriff's Court in Glasgow, also suspended Harrison's driving license for four years.
"You were nearly four times over the limit," Wood said. "You must have been barely able to stand, never mind drive a car. You could easily have caused carnage in a built-up area of Glasgow. You should be utterly ashamed of yourself."
Philip McWilliams, Harrison's lawyer, said the boxer had recognized that he has an alcohol problem. He said Harrison's goal is the restoration of his boxing license, the Glasgow Record said.
