WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Cole Hamels took a shutout into the eighth inning Tuesday while pitching the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-0 win over the Washington Nationals.

Hamels (12-8) scattered five hits and three walks before exiting in the eighth. He struck out six Washington batters.

Jimmy Rollins had two hits, two RBI and a run scored for the Phillies.

John Lannan (8-13) was charged with the loss after giving up two runs on five hits over six innings.

Philadelphia catcher Jesus Flores was injured when Chase Utley was trying to score from third. Utley's shoulder drove into Flores's ankle and knee, and the catcher stayed on the ground for several minutes before a stretcher and ambulance appeared near home plate. He was diagnosed with an ankle sprain after an x-ray showed no structural damage.
