WASHINGTON, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- New York and D.C. United played to a scoreless tie Saturday after United's Jaime Moreno missed a penalty kick in the 81st minute.

New York goalkeeper Jon Conway recorded his third straight shutout, making five saves.

United's Luciano Emilio, who leads the team with 11 goals, had a chance to score in the sixth minute, but his header went awry. Dave van den Bergh missed a free kick in the 11th minute on New York's first good scoring chance, and Juan Pablo Angel was denied by United goalkeeper Louis Crayton in the 17th minute.

His scoring chance in the 86th minute went wide of the left post.

The Red Bulls had their three-game winning streak snapped, but remained unbeaten in their last six contests overall.

New York (8-6-8) and United (10-10-2) remained tied for fourth in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference with 32 points.
