NEW YORK, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Roy Halladay gave up two runs and eight hits in seven innings Sunday, pacing the Toronto Blue Jay's 6-2 victory over the New York Yankees.

Halladay (17-9) beat the Yankees for the fourth time in five starts against them this season and became the American League's first 17-game winner.

Rod Barajas hit a first-inning, two-run double.

Vernon Wells and David Eckstein both had two hits and one RBI, and a run scored on Jose Veras's seventh-inning wild pitch for the Blue Jays, who won twice in the three-game series.

New York's Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi both hit solo homers. Xavier Nady and Johnny Damon had two hits apiece for the Yankees, losers in four of their last six games.

Losing pitcher Andy Pettitte (13-11) surrendered six earned runs and 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings.
