
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- James Shields allowed a run and six hits in seven innings Sunday, helping the Tampa Bay Rays finish a three-game sweep with a 10-4 rout of Baltimore.
Shields (12-8) equaled a career-best single-season win total with the victory.
Jason Bartlett went 4-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI, Willy Aybar had two RBI, five others drove in one run and a run scored on Kevin Millar's seventh-inning error.
Rocco Baldelli had three hits and Shawn Riggans two for the AL East-leading Rays, who extended their lead to 5 1/2-games over Boston with their fifth straight win.
Baltimore's Luke Scott hit a two-run eighth-inning double. Two others had one RBI each and Aubrey Huff had two hits in the Orioles' eighth loss in their last nine games.
Losing pitcher Brian Burres (7-9) surrendered seven earned runs and nine hits in five innings.
