CHICAGO, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Jayson Werth hit a solo homer and a two-run double Sunday, powering the Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-3 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Werth helped Philadelphia build a 3-0 lead in the first inning with a double down the left field line. His home run was a line drive to left in the fifth.

Ryan Howard contributed three hits and an RBI for the Phillies.

Jamie Moyer (12-7) was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Loser Sean Marshall (3-4) gave up five runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Marshall, Ronny Cedeno and Henry Blanco had run-scoring singles for the Cubs.
