AUCHTERARDER, Scotland, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- A 3-under-par 70 in Sunday's final round was good enough to make Gregory Havret a winner at the Johnnie Walker Championship in Auchterarder, Scotland.

The Frenchman was a wire-to-wire champion after having at least a share of the lead in all four rounds.

He won the event by holing a pressure-packed 8-foot par putt on the 18th green. His 72-hole total, 14-under 278, was a stroke better than England's Graeme Storm (68).

Peter Hanson (69) and David Howell (71) shared third place at 11-under 281.

Havret's second win on the European Tour was overshadowed by the fight for a spot on the Ryder Cup team next month.

"If I was a wild card, then I'd possibly feel like I don't really deserve to be there," 27-year-old Oliver Wilson told the BBC after he became the first European to play in the Ryder Cup without first winning on tour.

He claimed one of three automatic spots along with Justin Rose and Soren Hansen.
