TEMPE, Ariz., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Rudy Carpenter completed 22-of-28 passes for 388 yards and a touchdown to lead Arizona State to a 30-13 victory over Northern Arizona Saturday in Tempe.

Carpenter also led the Sun Devils (1-0) in rushing, with 40 yards on five attempts. Michael Jones hauled in six passes for 162 yards while Kerry Taylor had 93 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Lance Kriesien went 17-of-31 for 152 yards and a touchdown for the Lumberjacks (0-1), and Alex Henderson rushed for 74 yards on 22 carries. Shaun Fitzpatrick led the team in receiving yards with 59 on three receptions while Brian Riley scored the team's only touchdown.
