NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick testified from a federal prison at a Virginia bankruptcy hearing, saying he hopes to return to the NFL.

Vick spent two hours on a speakerphone from Leavenworth, Kan., The Virginian-Pilot reported. He filed for bankruptcy after being sentenced to prison for running a dog-fighting operation out of his home in Virginia.

He told his creditors he has no idea how much money he could earn in football. He said his agent and lawyers are in discussions with the NFL.

"My plan is to go back into playing football," he said.

Vick could be released from prison next year.

During his testimony, Vick appeared to be ignorant of his finances, someone who trusted his business representatives to handle things.

Vick said none of his agents are in discussions with the United Football League, which hopes to begin playing next year. A league official has said recently that Vick is likely to play for one of its teams.
