COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Todd Boeckman threw two touchdown passes Saturday, leading third-ranked Ohio State's season-opening 43-0 rout of Youngstown State.

The senior finished with 14 completions in 19 pass attempts for 187 yards.

Star running back Beanie Wells gained 111 yards on 13 carries with one touchdown before leaving the contest in the third quarter. The Akron, Ohio, native was carted of the field with a boot on his right ankle.

OSU (1-0) raced to a 26-0 halftime lead and never was threatened.

The Buckeyes' placekicker, Ryan Pretorius, a 29-year-old native of South Africa, added four field goals, equaling OSU's single-game record.

The Penguins (0-1) finished with negative 11 rushing yards and only 85 yards through the air.

Their long afternoon began by failing to produce a first down on either of its first two possessions and continued when they fumbled the ball away on the first play of the second quarter.

In the first 30 minutes, they were out-gained 273-28 yards.
