ANN ARBOR, Mich., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Brian Johnson completed 21-of-33 passes for 305 yards and a touchdown Saturday to lead the Utah Utes to a 25-23 victory over No. 24 Michigan.

Bradon Godfrey caught seven passes for 84 yards and a touchdown and Matt Asiata carried 13 times for 77 yards for Utah.

New Michigan Coach Rich Rodriguez alternated between quarterbacks Nick Sheridan (11-for-19, 98 yards, one TD, one INT) and Steven Threet (8-for-19, 69 yards, one TD).

Michigan scored twice on its first three possessions for a 10-6 lead. But Utah kicker Louie Sakoda converted field goals on three consecutive possessions (28, 43 and 41 yards) in the second quarter and Johnson hit Godfrey for a 19-yard touchdown pass with just 13 seconds remaining before the half to give the Utes a 22-10 lead.

Sakoda made his fourth field goal, a 53-yarder, to build Utah's lead to 25-10 midway the third quarter.
